The fifteenth and final season of Supernatural premiered on The CW on October 10, 2019, and concluded on November 19, 2020. It was announced on January 31, 2019.[1]

The first eleven episodes of the season aired on Thursday nights at 8:00 PM prior to Legacies, from October 10 to January 30. The twelfth and thirteen episodes aired on Monday nights at 8:00 PM in the spring prior to Roswell, New Mexico, from March 16 to March 23. The final seven episodes of the season aired on Thursday nights at 8:00 PM prior to The Outpost in the fall of 2020, from October 8 to November 19.

On March 22, 2019, starring cast members Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins announced on Twitter that the season would be Supernatural's last, consisting of 20 episodes.[2]

On March 23, 2020, co-executive producer Andrew Dabb announced that all of the season's episodes following the thirteenth would be postponed.[3]

The entire television series, including the fifteenth season, arrived on DVD and Blu-ray on May 25, 2021.

Filming[]

Production began in July 2019 and was scheduled to conclude in April 2020.[4]

On March 13, 2020, production on the final season was shut down due to increasing dangers of the coronavirus pandemic.[5]

On June 24, 2020, it was revealed that The CW is looking to resume filming for the remaining episodes at the end of July.[6]

The last day filmed for the series was September 10th, 2020 after the cast returned three weeks prior to wrap up the series.

Trivia[]

  • On November 8, 2019, The CW announced that the series finale of Supernatural would air on May 18, 2020;[7] however, due to production dilemmas caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Deadline Hollywood has reported that the nineteenth episode and series finale would be moved to a later date due to the strong possibility of production not resuming in the spring.[8]
  • The remainder of the season's episodes following the first eleven were all scheduled to air on Monday nights at 8:00 PM, with the series wrapping up on May 18, 2020.[7] However, on March 23, it was announced that the series would go on hiatus due to production issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]
  • According to Jensen Ackles, the cast shot one day of episode 19 when the shutdown occurred, so only 18 episodes of the season had been completed.[9]
  • On May 14, 2020, The CW confirmed that the delayed final seven episodes of Supernatural would air in fall 2020.[10]
    • CW President Mark Pedowitz revealed that the final 7 episodes would be turned into a special event.[11]
  • On August 17, 2020, The CW confirmed that the delayed final seven episodes of Supernatural would begin airing on October 8 of the same year.[12]
